Abstract

In this paper we present an argument on the relationship between technology and trade from an evolutionary perspective. The argument centres the attention in the explanation of economic change and stresses the role of diversity of the agents in the economic system and the role of the mechanisms of selection in the competitive struggle that characterizes international trade. The argument belongs to what is known as appreciative theorizing and seeks to establish the key relationships between the changes in the patterns of trade and the changes in technology. In the last part of the document we review the evolutionary literature in which formal models are used to explore with more rigour some of the propositions of the theoritical argument// En este documento se presenta un argumento de la relación entre la tecnología y el comercio desde una perspectiva evolutiva.
