Selección de la superficie óptima para el cubrimiento con tela de plástico: Un estudio de caso

Abstract

Introducción. En la producción de cultivos se llama "cubrimiento" a la tela de plástico colocada a cierta altura del suelo de cultivo. Tal tela tiene varias ventajas. Mejora la estructura del suelo, ayuda a mantener una temperatura uniforme en el suelo, limita la pérdida de nutrientes del suelo a causa de la lixiviación, impide el crecimiento de las malezas y reduce la pérdida innecesaria de humedad del suelo por evaporación(Nicholas, 1983). El uso de plástico de polietileno negro como un cubrimiento para las plantas se introdujo a fines de los años cincuenta y desde entonces se ha usado como un cubrimiento para muchos cultivos. Se informa de varios beneficios importantes del uso del cubrimiento de plástico. Primero, en diversas áreas varios estudios informan de rendimientos mejorados de una amplia variedad de legumbres y frutas, tales como la calabaza, el jitomate, la piña y el durazno(Coffey, 1984; Dubois, 1978; Ilic, 1983; Nicholas, 1983b; Spice, 1977; Trujillo y Corgan, 1981)...
