México: Estabilización, deuda y crecimiento

Abstract

Durante los decenios recientes la historia mexicana ha sido afectada por la proximidad de los Estados Unidos. Decía Porfirio Díaz: "¡Pobre de México, tan lejos de Dios y tan cerca de los Estados Unidos!" La marcada desigualdad en la distribución del ingreso, la vasta riqueza petrolera y, hasta ahora, la sorprendente estabilidad política, son otras importantes características. Una gran deuda externa y desfavorables términos de intercambio por ahora han terminado con el crecimiento y han agravado la inestabilidad financiera en una medida jamás experimentada por México durante la posguerra. La economía mexicana actualmente está en una encrucijada. Se está gestando una gran estabilización. Contando con una administración prudente y algo de buena suerte en los factores externos, sobre todo en cuanto al petróleo, hay grandes probabilidades de un retorno al crecimiento y a la estabilidad...
