Abstract

¿Por qué vuelve la inflación, aunque notablemente atenuada, después de que los programas estabilizadores de raigambre heterodoxa aplicados últimamente en América Latina parecían haberla abatido?; ¿qué dificultades encuentran estos programas para consolidar de manera definitiva la estabilidad y le crecimiento?; ¿qué lecciones pueden extraerse de estas experiencias para la elaboración de estrategias similares en el futuro? Estas preguntas son importantes en todos los casos en que se instrumentaron planes antinflacionarios que aspiraban a mantener la neutralidad distributiva y defender los niveles de actividad y empleo, pero debe decirse que constituyen interrogantes particularmente críticos en el caso argentino. Aplicados a partir de junio de 1985, el shock antinflacionario conocido con el nombre de Plan Austral combinó la reforma monetaria y los controles de precios y salarios -ingredientes de toda propuesta heterodoxa- con una política de administración de demanda más rígida que la que conocieron al mismo tiempo el Brasil y el Perú...
