Abstract

In Agathotopia: The Economics of Partnership, Professor Meade relates that he has discovered the answer to the problem of reconciling capitalism and socialism by a journey in search of Utopia -the Perfect Place- but instead he found Agathotopia -the Good Place which has essayed the more modest task of producing good institutions for imperfect people. The present fragment describes the novel form of partnership enterprise developed by the Agathotopians in which both workers and capitalists share the risks, and analyses its implications as regards efficiency, income distribution and employment.
