Bayes classifiers of three-dimensional rotations and the sphere with symmetries

Abstract

We derive the Bayes classification rule for two rotation distributions in three dimensions which are shifts of a common conjugation-invariant distribution, and for the two distributions on the sphere which are obtained by applying rotations of this kind to the north pole of the sphere.
