Solving certain principal value integrals by reduction to the dilogarithm

Abstract

Principal value integrals occur commonly in physics such as in applications of the Kramers-Kronig relations. They are ordinarily solved indirectly by the theory of residues. It is shown in this work that certain principal value logarithmic integrals containing simple real poles can be solved directly by reduction to the dilogarithm function. It is contended that physical processes contained in a principal value integral are observable in a directly obtained solution.
