Abstract

The phase diagram of a mixed spin-12 and spin-2 Ising system is investigated by the use of the effective-field theory. The general expression for evaluating the transition temperature and the tricritical point is obtained. We find that the tricritical point exists in the system when the coordination number z is larger than z = 3.
