Exactly solvable one-dimensional models of polymers in turbulent flow

Abstract

The motion of a polymer chain in a random velocity field is discussed in one dimension. A linear force between beads leads to an unnormalizable distribution. A highly nonlinear model with hardcore barriers is introduced and the probability distribution of the monomers is found. When the polymer chain is inhomogeneous, that is the forces between monomers have different forms, the model is solved for a chain consisting of three beads. The probability distribution is substantially altered and has properties that differ from those of equilibrium systems. There are nonzero currents that exist in steady state.
