Abstract

The local mean field calculations are carried out for S = 1 Ising spin glasses and for discrete quadrupolar glasses. The couplings are short-range and Gaussian distributed. The phase diagram in the Ising case is different than predicted for the infinite range model: there is no reentrancy on the anisotropy-temperature plane. An onset of irreversibility in the field cycling is demonstrated to take place in discrete quadrupolar glasses. Properties of the specific heats in both systems are discussed.
