Quantum electrodynamical theory of infrared effects in condensed matter

Abstract

In this article, we go beyond the results of the preceding paper (I), in that we consider the radiative corrections of the interactions of charge carriers with the quantized electromagnetic field to all orders of perturbation. The radiative contribution of the cross section stemming from the emission (and, or) absorption of soft photons (infraquanta) then shows no divergence down to zero frequency. For a classical electron gas, the results of Yennie et al. are recovered. Extensions for metals and for the presence of a radiative background field are also obtained.
