Applications of Noether's theorem to inhomogeneous fluids

Abstract

The implications of Noether's theorem in the van der Walls theory of nonuniform fluids are examined for a two-phase system with a planar interface, for a three-phase fluid with a line of contact, and for a two-phase fluid with a pair of coexisting interface structures. In each case the thermodynamic consequences of the resulting conservation laws are examined.
