Abstract

We analyze the latest evolution of education, health expenditure and indicators of development and poverty reduction in Africa and Asia, with special attention to the role of education in the process of socio-economic development. We also present our perspective on priorities for international cooperation to achieve the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, and other positive goals for developing countries, as well as suggestions for new measures that could encourage European and international cooperation, not only at official level but also through other social initiatives.
