Technical and Allocative Efficiency of Education in Agricultural Production: A Profit Function Approach

Abstract

In this paper we apply the profit function method to examine the differences in resource use efficiency between educated and uneducated farmers in paddy production. Empirical results from farm level data indicate that educated farmers are technically and allocatively more efficient compared to the uneducated farmers. The short run input demand(labour, fertilizer, and bullock labour) elasticities are also estimated. The responsiveness of paddy supply with respect to its price is found to be inelastic.
