Nach wie vor große Bedeutung metallischer Rohstoffe

Abstract

Zum Bild einer modernen Wirtschaft gehört häufig die Vorstellung, dass durch die Expansion des Dienstleistungssektors die Bedeutung der Industrie und damit auch der Verbrauch mineralischer Rohstoffe zurückgehen würden. Tatsächlich nimmt deren Verbrauch selbst in hochentwickelten Volkswirtschaften weiter zu oder verharrt auf hohem Niveau. Dies liegt vor allem daran, dass sich viele Metalle, die früher in teilweise wenig anspruchsvollen Einsatzgebieten Verwendung fanden, zu hochwertigen Spezialwerkstoffen auch für moderne Zukunftsindustrien gewandelt haben. Zunehmend wird erkannt, dass die vermeintlich überholte "Old Economy" trotz schrumpfenden Anteils am Bruttoinlandsprodukt eine Grundlage auch der modernen Informations- und Dienstleistungsgesellschaft bleibt. Bei der aktuellen Diskussion über einen notwendigen Strukturwandel sollten in diesem Zusammenhang auch Arbeitsmarkt- und Umweltaspekte nicht übersehen werden.
