Transformation prägt Bevölkerungsentwicklung in Deutschland

Abstract

Die politischen und gesellschaftlichen Veränderungen, die mit der Übernahme des bundesdeutschen Rechts- und Wirtschaftssystems verbunden waren, haben die demographische Entwicklung in Ostdeutschland nachhaltig geprägt. Auf den radikalen Umbruch in fast allen Lebensbereichen und die damit verbundenen Unsicherheiten über die persönliche Zukunft reagierten die meisten Menschen mit Zurückhaltung - dies zeigt auch ein Vergleich mit anderen Transformationsländern Mittel- und Osteuropas. Hierzu gehört vor allem der Verzicht auf (weitere) Kinder angesichts drohender oder bereits erfolgter Arbeitslosigkeit und der unsicheren finanziellen Lage. Auffällig ist auch der Rückgang der Scheidungshäufigkeit. Die Lebenserwartung nahm in Ostdeutschland stärker zu als in den alten Ländern, was auf die bessere medizinische Versorgung und die Verringerung der Schadstoffbelastung zurückzuführen sein dürfte. Insbesondere der drastische Rückgang der Geburtenzahlen wird sich nachhaltig auf die künftige Bevölkerungsentwicklung auswirken. Dadurch wird in 15 bis 20 Jahren die Generation der potentiellen Eltern im gleichen Maße zurückgehen.
