Abstract

This article aims at demonstrating that cooperations, and notably Research and Development (R&D) consortia, allow partners to innovate and to appropriate scientific and technological results. Based on an expanded definition of appropriation, the major factors favouring this innovation within R&D consortia are highlighted. The econometric analyses, realised on a sample of 317 European firms involved in the EUREKA initiative, show that R&D consortia produce contrasted results that can be explained by specific modes of cooperation.
