Abstract

The concept of network is central to the reform of the French hospital care system. In this paper, we specify the institutional set-up of networks in the construction of the " New Hospital Policy ". We then establish the conditions of a coherent restructuring of the supply of hospital care relying simultaneously on three modes of co-ordination : coercion, contract and convention. Finally, we illustrate this approach by presenting a few networks introduced in Burgundy among local hospitals for elderly people.
