Abstract

This article aims at demonstrating the interest of statistics available on the Internet concerning consultations of abstracts, downloads and citations of articles to assess the attractiveness and influence of a scientific journal. The case of the French review Finance Contrôle Stratégie (FCS) is used to give an illustration based on statistics provided by Repec and Publish or Perish. Beyond the findings which confirm the good relative performance of FCS and the usefulness of such statistics for managing a scientific journal, the article also provides insights into a paper’s life cycle and raises the question of potential advantages in maintaining French as the language of publication.
