An Analysis on Export-Oriented Growth Model: Based on Turkish Manufacturing

Abstract

According to foreign trade perspective, a developing country can follow two different paths aimed at industrialization policies: Import substitution industrialization based on protectionism and export-oriented industrialization aimed at integration in international economy. Turkey applied both of them for developing its economy. When import substitution industrialization policies applied in our country since 1963 became inadequate, export-oriented industrialization policy was adopted with decisions taken within the Stabilization Program on January 24th 1980. Positive developments created by these policies provided significant increases in Turkey’s export volume. The best evidence of this change is the incredible progress of export item in manufacturing industry.
