La función de las leyes económicas en la explicacíon histórica

Abstract

Es indudable el cambio que se ha producido en unos pocos años en la historiografía. No es difícil describir las líneas maestras del mismo telegráficamente: crisis de la «historia analítica y estructural», sea en su versión marxiana, New Economie History o Annales, y auge de una historiografía fundada en el relato y orientada al estudio de las costumbres o las mentalidades. Desde el punto de vista metodológico, el cambio tampoco resulta de complicado discernimiento. La historiografía ahora criticada estaba comprometida, más o menos explícitamente, con el empeño de hacer de la historia una ciencia, lo que en nuestra tradición cultural equivale a la voluntad de obtener leyes («hipótesis generales») demográficas, ecológicas o económicas que expliquen —a poder ser deductivamente— el acontecer histórico.
