Abstract

Si para conocer con rigor cualquier proceso de industrialización se requiere el estudio de los recursos energéticos utilizados, el caso español puede enriquecerse muy notoriamente a partir de la atención que se preste a la minería de la hulla asturiana.En efecto, representando la producción de Asturias casi siempre más de la mitad y, en muchas ocasiones, alrededor de los dos tercios de la total de España, la economía hullera asturiana ha sido una pieza clave de la industrialización española desde el mismo momento en que el mercado nacional del carbón queda supeditado a una rígida política proteccionista, esto es, desde los años finales del siglo xix.
