Theory of action, rationality and conception of the individual in Pareto's writings

Abstract

The specialists of Pareto's economic and sociological writings, underline that his theory of action is based on a drastic division between logical actions and non-logical ones; the first referring to economic activities and the second to sociological relationships. In this paper, it is shown, on the one hand, that Pareto's distinction cannot be easily sustained in the light of more recent conceptions of rationality, and, on the other hand, that Pareto's sociology is based on a particular conception of the individual.
