Estado, nación y democracia en el siglo XXI

Abstract

El artículo analiza la relación Estado-nación en los sucesos recientemente acaecidos en Japón y Bolivia, casos en los que los ideales universalmente compartidos sobre el desarrollo y la democracia se cumplen con los criterios comunes para la mayoría de países del globo. Esta relación es analizada comparando las particularidades de cada contexto respecto a los conceptos mencionados. Japón, a pesar de considerarse un país desarrollado económicamente, es criticado por la falta de ejercicio de una política popular democrática. Este país, aún en el siglo XXI, sigue siendo una monarquía constitucional. Así, ante el catastrófico episodio de marzo del 2011, la suerte de la ciudadanía fue definida por la familia imperial. Por su parte, Bolivia, desde comienzos del presente siglo, ha gestionado una reconstrucción nacional que ha refundadola Carta Magna, y, con esta, la nación y el Estado; sin embargo, esta reorganización democrática asiste hoy a varias encrucijadas que debaten el estado entre la democracia y el autoritarismo, e igualmente entre el desarrollo liberal y el desarrollo desde una perspectiva comunal.
