Logros y retos en la industria

Abstract

“Colombia comenzó tardíamente su proceso de industrialización, pero ya en 1953, la participación de las manufacturas en el Producto Interno Bruto (PIB) era mayor que en Brasil, Chile o México, gracias a la enorme dinámica observada en ese sector durante las décadas de los treinta y cuarentas. El sector industrial creció a tasas significativas y mayores al conjunto de la economía hasta 1974, pero su dinámica se estancó posteriormente. ¿Cómo lograr que la industria lidere nuevamente el proceso de acumulación, y crezca a tasas similares a las del sudeste asiático en los últimos 30 anos (más de 10% por ano), y similares a las alcanzadas durante las primeras etapas de nuestra industrialización? En la primera sección se describen las características centrales de la industria colombiana, y en la segunda se presentan planteamientos de política económica basados en la experiencia de los "4 tigres" (Hong Kong, Corea del Sur, Singapur y Taiwán) y de los demás países de "reciente industrialización" (Indonesia, Malasia y Tailandia) en el Asia.”
