La educación primaria en la Nueva Granada

Abstract

Este trabajo es un análisis descriptivo de la educación primaria en la Nueva Granada entre 1835 y 1850, con base en información primaria sobre aspectos de la escuela elemental de la época, tales como el número de estudiantes por establecimiento, la disponibilidad de maestros y recursos, y las asignaturas que se impartían, entre otros. Se presentan estadísticas por provincia y por tipo de escuela, y se estiman algunos indicadores de cobertura con el fin de mostrar las diferencias entre las diversas regiones. Se concluye que la educación primaria de la época atravesó por muchos inconvenientes, como la poca disponibilidad de recursos, la falta de maestros calificados y el poco interés de los padres en la educación de sus hijos, pese a las ideas reformistas que impulsaron la educación de ninos y ninas, sin distinción de raza.
