Panorama de la sociedad de la información en América latina (2000-2007)

Abstract

Este artículo pretende ubicar a América Latina en el escenario internacional de la llamada Sociedad de la Información" durante el período 2000-2007. Para ello se revisan los principales índices desarrollados por diversos organismos no gubernamentales como el Foro Económico Mundial, la Unión Internacional de Telecomunicaciones (UIT) y la Conferencia de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Comercio y el Desarrollo (UNCTAD) con el fin de medir la incorporación de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicación (en adelante TICS) a nivel global y regional. Se abordan además elementos centrales como el comercio electrónico en Latinoamérica junto con la infraestructura de TICS y el acceso a ellas a nivel general y de empresas (mediante datos de telefonía móvil, computadoras personales, Internet y redesde área local, Intranet y Extranet) en la región."
