El sector farmacéutico en el marco de las negociaciones de libre comercio con los Estados Unidos

Abstract

Resumen: Este artículo muestra de manera general los acuerdos de la Organización Mundial del Comercio que tienen relación con el sector salud, centrándose en la propiedad intelectual para el caso específico del sector farmacéutico, debido a que este ha sido uno de los principales puntos de debate en las rondas de negociaciones que realizan actualmente Colombia y Estados Unidos con miras a firmar el Tratado de Libre Comercio -TLC-. En este sentido, se presentan algunos indicadores básicos tales como: la contribución del precio de los medicamentos en el IPC de la salud, la balanza comercial para el sector farmacéutico y de medicinas y la composición del mercado en cuanto a la comercialización de medicamentos de marca y genéricos, finalmente se ofrecen algunas ideas sobre el posible comportamiento del mercado a partir de las experiencias de México y Chile.
