Sostenibilidad de la Cuenta Corriente del Valle del Cauca: una aproximación desde la econometría

Abstract

Este documento evalúa la sostenibilidad de la cuenta corriente del Valle del Cauca siguiendo el método bivarial propuesto por Husted (1992. Para ello se probó que las importaciones y las exportaciones anuales del departamento (como porcentaje del PIB del Valle y en términos per cápita) para el periodo comprendido entre 1960 y 2000, son series con orden de integración 1, y se emplearon las pruebas de cointegración de Engel y Granger, de Johansen y no paramétrica de Breitung (2002) para determinar la existencia de cointegración entre estas. Se concluye que al no estar cointegradas las series de las importaciones y exportaciones del Valle del Cauca, y existir la posibilidad de que el déficit externo regional crezca ilimitadamente como proporción de la actividad económica, la cuenta corriente para el Valle del Cauca no es sotenible.
