¿Fue Rojas Pinilla populista?

Abstract

RESUMEN El periodo presidencial del general Gustavo Rojas Pinillas, no obstante que se caracterizo por marcar algunos hitos en la historia contemporánea, por ser el único gobierno de facto en el Siglo XX, mostró cierto inclinación populista, pese a que algunos historiadores como Marco Palacios no lo cataloguen como tal. De los rasgos prototípicos del populismo económico descritos en la literatura económica, tan solo uno (tendencia redistributiva del ingreso) tendría cabida en este episodio populista. El comportamiento de las variables macroeconómicas incluidas en este análisis no registro mayores altibajos, durante el periodo escogido. Con respecto al periodo precedente (19481953) y el subsiguiente (19581962) el desempeno de estos agregados económicos fue inferior a los niveles observados. Del análisis efectuado se concluye que el Gobierno de Rojas Pinilla no fue populista en lo económico.
