El mercado mundial de café y el surgimiento de Colombia como un país cafetero

    Abstract

    El crecimiento en la producción mundial estuvo acompañado por una tendencia al incremento a largo plazo del precio real del café. El mercado más dinámico en el consumo de café fue los Estados Unidos. En Europa fue Alemania y Francia; el dinamismo del consumo en el siglo XIX, se debió, básicamente, a la popularización creciente del consumo del café en los países avanzados, como resultado en los ingresos reales promedios, a partir de la revolución industrial. El café a comienzos del siglo XIX, era un artículo de lujo de dichos países y que solo con el transcurso del siglo fue generalizándose su consumo en la población. Colombia surgió como un país cafetero en la segunda mitad del siglo XIX, coincidiendo con una fase de desequilibrio creciente en el mercado mundial del café.
