Determinantes del diferencial salarial por género en Colombia, 1997-2003

    Abstract

    El presente trabajo explora los determinantes de los diferenciales salariales por género en Colombia en el período 1997-2003, utilizando la Encuesta de Calidad de Vida. La estimación fue realizada mediante regresiones por percentiles, a fi n de analizar los determinantes en varios puntos de la distribución de salarios y no únicamente la media, como lo han hecho trabajos anteriores. A partir de las ecuaciones de ingresos, se realizó una descomposición de los diferenciales. Los resultados sugieren que éstos no se explican por las diferencias en características productivas de hombres y mujeres sino por diferencias en las remuneraciones percibidas. En este contexto, las políticas tradicionales para enfrentar esta situación como leyes de cuotas, no serían una solución efectiva si no están acompañadas por criterios de remuneración objetivos. Este tipo de esquemas existen en el sector público colombiano y han resultado ser una manera efectiva de disminuir las diferencias en remuneraciones entre géneros.
