Essor des partis d’extrême droite en Europe et immigration : un lien positif mais pas mécanique

Abstract

Au-delà de facteurs tels que la désindustrialisation, le commerce international ou le désenchantement démocratique, une série d’études récentes montre que l’immigration a contribué à la montée des partis d’extrême droite en Europe. Mais, à y regarder de plus près, il apparaît qu’en France l’effet de l’immigration sur la part des suffrages exprimés en faveur du Front national (rebaptisé Rassemblement national en 2018) est très sensible à l’origine et au niveau de diplôme de la population immigrée. Cela montre que l’intégration économique et sociale de cette population est essentielle pour contenir la formation du sentiment anti-immigrés, et qu’il importe de la préserver à l’heure où les conséquences économiques de la pandémie de Covid-19 pourraient renforcer la défiance et la xénophobie.
