Abstract
Participation – democratic functioning – is one of the main elements which make up social economy companies. Within this, certain experiences which aim to solve recently appeared social problems (social integration, fair trade companies, etc.), have been denominated New Social Economy. From the company Stakeholder Theory, this article studies the degree and the ways of participation in the business initiatives of the NSE, concluding that, effectively, they can be brought together within the “participation economy”, through which a link of homogenity is established with the companies of the more traditional social economy.
