Abstract

One of the main aims of the EU roadmap for a resource-saving Europe is to make raw materials from waste by 2020. Of the some 2.5 billion tonnes of waste generated in the European Union in 2012, around 10% was municipal waste. This article offers an overview of the current recycling rates of municipal waste in several EU member countries.
