Abstract

After two successive increases, the Ifo World Economic Climate indicator fell again slightly. Both assessments of the current economic situation and the six-month economic outlook deteriorated compared to the previous quarter. The recovery in the world economy is not really making any progress. There are nevertheless signs of stabilization in the world economy. Developments in the various economic regions of the world are heterogeneous. The price increase expected for 2013 remains unchanged from last quarter at 3.2%. On worldwide average, short-term interest rates are no longer expected to decrease, but to rise for the first time in almost two years. The expected upward trend is even more marked in long-term interest rates. On worldwide average the US dollar and the Japanese Yen remain close to their equilibrium exchange rate, as in the last survey. The euro and the British pound, on the other hand, are seen as somewhat overvalued.
