Labour Costs in the Eurozone

Abstract

One reason why the euro crisis has continued for so long are the different developments in average labour costs per unit of output and their impact on international competitiveness. This article looks at the different trends in unit labour costs over the past 20 years in the member states of the Eurozone, with a special focus on the crisis-afflicted countries of Greece, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Ireland and Germany.
