Abstract

Nach den jüngsten Berechnungen des ifo Instituts gaben die Besucher und die Aussteller der Essener Messen und Ausstellungen im Jahr 2008 insgesamt etwa 410 Mill. € aus. Die Stadt Essen profitierte zwar mit einem Betrag von über 170 Mill. € am stärksten, aber auch auf das restliche Nordrhein-Westfalen entfiel mit über 103 Mill. € ein beträchtliches Ausgabevolumen. Die Gesamtausgaben der in- und ausländischen Kongressteilnehmer und Veranstaltungsbesucher beliefen sich 2008 auf knapp 67 Mill. €. Die dadurch insgesamt angestoßenen gesamtwirtschaftlichen Produktionseffekte in Deutschland ermöglichten im Jahr 2008 die Beschäftigung von bundesweit knapp 7 500 Erwerbspersonen.
