Trade- and competition-policy developments in German and European goods distribution

Abstract

Macroeconomic developments in wholesaling and retailing have not only affected the corporate and competitive structures in commerce; they have also led to new functional profiles in trading companies themselves. During the course of these changes, functions in marketing and sales that were previously the domain of wholesalers and retailers have been taken over by companies in the services and production sectors. Prof. Erich Greipl, University of Mannheim, in collaboration with the Ifo Institute, has analysed these structural developments in German and European goods distribution.
