International economic climate index falls again

Author

Listed:

Abstract

According to the results of the 70th Ifo Economic Survey International (ESI), the world economic climate has continued to cool. As in the preceding survey in July, the decline was solely attributable to less optimistic expectations, whereas appraisals of the current world economic situation have improved slightly. The mid-term outlook for world economic growth remained positive: on average for the next three to five years, an annual growth of 3.7% is anticipated. Considering that the world economic climate is at a very high level in a long-term comparison, the survey data indicate a temporary economic weakening but not the beginning of a recession.
