Abstract

Die öffentliche Gaswirtschaft in Deutschland sieht schwere Zeiten auf sich zukommen. Zum einen wurden von der EU neue Verordnungen mit verschärften Umweltschutznormen herausgegeben und zum andern will die neue Regierung Energie stärker besteuern. Auch die Kunden schränkten 1997 ihre Gasbezüge witterungsbedingt um 3% ein, und auch für 1998 können die deutschen Gasversorungsunternehmen nicht mit einem Absatzzuwachs rechen. Dennoch haben sie für 1998 und 1999 mit gut 5,4 Mrd. DM etwa ebenso hohe Investitionen geplant, wie sie 1997 relisiert haben. Der Anteil der neuen Bundesländer, der 1997 noch fast ein Viertel der Gesamtinvestitionen erreichte, wird sich in den nächsten Jahren etwa auf dem Niveau des Bevölkerungsanteils einpendeln.
