Abstract

Der Beitrag befaßt sich mit der wirtschaftlichen, insbesondere der industriellen Entwicklung und Struktur Kasachstans, stellt Vergleiche mit den anderen zentralasiatischen Republiken und der GUS an und zeigt neben den günstigen Voraussetzungen auch Probleme auf, mit denen das Land langfristig konfrontiert ist. Der mit Abstand wichtigste Vorteil besteht im Reichtum an mineralischen Stoffen, der ein bedeutendes Exportpotential verspricht und auch ausländische Unternehmen zu Engagements in Kasachstan animieren dürfte.Auf der negativen Seite stehen ein Mangel an Humankapital, die ethnische Heterogenität, Umweltprobleme und schließlich auch die periphere Lage des Landes.
