Mehr als nur Kohle? Die Wirtschafts- und Industrieregion Lausitz – Teil 1: Branchen- undUnternehmensstruktur

Abstract

Die Erweiterungspläne für den Braunkohletagebau in der Lausitz sorgen ein halbes Jahr vor den anstehenden Landtagswahlen in Sachsen und Brandenburg für heftige politische Ausein andersetzungen zwischen Befürwortern und Gegnern des Bergbaus. Aufgrund des harten politischen Ringens um die „Kohlefrage“ wird in der aktuellen Debatte um die Zukunft der Lausitz eine für die Region mindestens ebenso zentrale Frage jedoch weitgehend ausgeblendet: Wie ist es um die Wirtschaftstruktur außerhalb der Braunkohlesektoren Bergbau und Energie bestellt? Im vorliegenden Beitrag untersuchen die Autoren den „Branchenmix“ in der Lausitzer Wirtschaft und stellen Besonderheiten der Region gegenüber der ostdeutschen Wirtschafts- und Industriestruktur heraus. Hierbei zeigt sich ein überraschender Befund: Die Lausitzer Industrie ist trotz der unveränderten Dominanz der Sektoren Bergbau und Energie insgesamt stärker diversifiziert als die Industrie Ostdeutschlands.
