Die EU-Osterweiterung steht vor der Tür

Abstract

Ab 1. Mai 2004 hat die Europäische Union zehn neue Mitglieder – bis auf Zypern und Malta östliche Nachbarn der bisherigen EU. Diese Osterweiterung bietet viele Chancen: Europa wächst politisch und gesellschaftlich weiter zusammen und auch wirtschaftlich verspricht die Integration weitere Vorteile. Es darf allerdings nicht vergessen werden, dass die Gewinne ungleich verteilt sein werden. Einige Sektoren werden in Deutschland durch den größeren Binnenmarkt weiter wachsen können, andere werden Marktanteile abgeben müssen. Aber nicht nur sektoral wird es Verschiebungen geben, sondern auch zwischen den Produktionsfaktoren. Die Lohnkosten in den angrenzenden Ländern Tschechien und Polen betragen weniger als 20 % des deutschen Niveaus. Der Lohndruck in den nächsten Jahren wird also beträchtlich sein.
