Zum Stand der Konvergenz in Ostdeutschland im Jahr 1998

Abstract

Zu einem erneuten Aufholen der ostdeutschen Wirtschaft gegenüber der westdeutschen wird es erst dann kommen, wenn das nominale Bruttoinlandsprodukt je Einwohner wieder schneller steigt als im Westen. Dies ist derzeit noch nicht der Fall. Seit 1997 ist der Aufholprozeß gestoppt, die Pro-Kopf-Produktion in laufenden Preisen stagniert bei knapp 57% des westdeutschen Werts. Allerdings wird 1999 das reale Bruttoinlandsprodukt in Ost- und Westdeutschland voraussichtlich wieder gleich schnell wachsen. Nominal gerechnet und korrigiert um die Änderung der Wohnbevölkerung könnte sich die BIP-Relation wieder zugungsten Ostdeutschlands erhöhen.
