Abstract

Richard Florida?s regional economic development theory is based on three snapshot Ts : Technologie, Talent and Tolerance intended to assess and classify the competitiveness and vitality of cities or agglomerations, whereas the creative sector of the economy would obey four Ts (acronym TAPE) : Technology and innovation, Arts and culture, Professions and management, Education and training. Our enquiry teaches us that for the participants in our focus groups the region?s geographic features translate nowadays in environmental values and the preservation of public spaces. Among our participants, those who belong to the biotechnology sector praise the availability of modern buildings. For their part, biotech corporations operate in custom hi-tech laboratories because it would have been more difficult and expensive to implement such facilities in denser, older urban settings.
