Abstract

Politický proces vedený OSN začal na konci roka 2005 v snahe určiť budúci status Kosova. 2. februára 2007 špeciálny zástupca OSN pre Kosovo Marti Ahtisaari, bývalý fínsky prezident, predložil lídrom v Belehrade a Prištine náčt návrhu budúceho statusu. Návrh pokrýva širokú škálu problémov týkajúcich sa budúcnosti Kosova, obzvlášť nástroje na ochranu kosovských nealbánskych spoločenstiev ako je decentralizácia vlády, ochrana srbského ortodoxného cirkevného dedičstva a inštitucionálnu ochranu nealbánskych menšín. Priština akceptovala Ahtisaarovu finálnu dohodu, zatiaľ čo Belehrad pokračuje v jej odmietaní. Hneď po tom, čo sa návrh zverejnil, USA a EÚ mu vyjadrili silnú podporu. Viacerí medzinárodní pozorovatelia veria , že rokovania povedú ku kosovskej nezávislosti s obdobím pod medzinárodným dohľadom.
