Les Banques Coopératives Françaises Dans Les Années 1990–2000: Spécialisation Des Activités Et Performances

Abstract

RESUME**: Cet article porte sur les transformations et les stratégies d'adaptation des banques coopératives françaises induites par la réforme du système financier français et la globalisation financière. Il examine l'ampleur de la banalisation au niveau des activités de crédit des réseaux bancaires coopératifs ainsi que leurs performances. Il est montré que les réseaux bancaires coopératifs maintiennent une spécialisation assez importante de leurs propres activités de crédit, dont le corollaire est une diversification au niveau des groupes coopératifs. Ces réseaux ont également un pouvoir de marché croissant et une rentabilité meilleure que les banques commerciales pendant la période 1992–1999 et comparable pour la période suivante. Enfin, les banques coopératives présentent l'avantage de permettre aux pouvoirs publics de conserver, compte tenu du caractère «non opéable» de ces réseaux, leur capacité d'influence sur les stratégies bancaires tout en respectant les règles du jeu de l'Espace financier européen et de la globalisation financière.
