Abstract

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italian Unification and to contribute to the debate under way on the national history, ABI has launched a research project to analyze the linkages between the society, the economy and the action of Italian banks. The research has been published by Bancaria Editrice, the publishing house of ABI, in a book Le Banche e l’Italia. Crescita economica e società civile, 1861-2011, and in a DVD Le Banche in Luce with historical images and photos on banks. The book was presented in Rome on October 31 during a conference at the presence of Italy’s President, Giorgio Napolitano. At the conference, in addition to the President of ABI, Giuseppe Mussari, and Director General, Giovanni Sabatini, attended, among others, Giovanni Bazoli, Federico Ghizzoni, Giuseppe Guzzetti, Antonio Patuelli, whose speeches are published in the following pages.
